Meet Tara Thomas - Relationship Coach

I'm Tara (She/Her) and I'm a Relationship Coach in Toronto,  Lake Macquarie on Awabakal Country. I'm a white, married, middle-class, educated, cis, bi, able bodied, neuro-diverse (ADHD) woman, living with chronic fatigue.

I'm a fellow weirdo, and have never traveled a conventional path. It can suck because the world isn't designed for misfits, sometimes it's myself I'm rebelling against, and being a weirdo can feel lonely.

I believe that partner/s & couples therapy is about skills building, not person fixing~I take an experimental approach, incorporating movement alongside curious conversations. I collaborate with partner/s, polycules, & individuals to discover their unique dynamics... It's a choose-your-own-adventure kind of ride!

I swear a lot, think life's too short for drama, and dream of a world where we ALL belong.

Why I Do What I Do

This isn't a story about how I did the thing and now I have the perfect relationship that you should all want...

That's just not true. That is a bullshit marketing lie that people tell you to make you think if you just spend enough money on a relationship coach you can have the life you think you want... it's not real.

Like, I'm happy (mostly) and love my partner (all the amount) but we have highs & lows like any other humans in relationship.

My mission is repairing intimate connections to create relational ripples that generate networks of care.

What I've come to believe through a slow evolution of thinking, lots of applied learning, and working with hundreds of people as their Relationship Coach, is that there is no single answer to how to do this thing we call relating.

However, there ARE a bunch of helpful strategies that will help YOU navigate what works best in YOUR relationship/s. That'll be different to what everyone else does, and that's what makes it cool.

I believe that healing happens relationally, and that by nurturing healthy & happy interactions on a micro level in each of our relationships we will fundamentally transform our communities.

I'm not going to bang on about my 'journey'...

Because it's not a fucking journey. It's a series of days and weeks and choices and actions that all add up to make the sum total of your life. There are really hard bits, unfair bits and stupid decisions. And there are glorious successes, joyful moments, and wonderful people.

I'm here as a relationship coach. I'm also here as a woman, a partner, a friend, and a fellow human. I don't have the answers. I'm a learner right here beside you living into my values and doing my best to be in right relationship with the world.

What Matters To Me

I'm a quiet soul. Outside of my work as a relationship coach, I love nothing better than to hang out with Jimmy T and my two dogs Billy & Roo Beans (um, they even have their own Insta @billyandroobeans). My three favourite activities are gardening, reading, and coffee & chats.

I'm passionately anti-capitalist, politically very left, and these values are strongly expressed in my work.

Fun fact: 90% of new clients, when asked why they called me and not another couples therapist, say "because you swear on your website". I AM quite swear-y, and frankly if that's offensive I reckon you're getting mad about the wrong shit.

KIND WORDS FROM CLIENTS

Working with Tara was an amazing experience. Her style of communication and no-nonsense approach to problem-solving really resonated with me.

During the sessions, I learnt a tremendous amount about myself, and how relationships actually work. The experience has helped me to develop a much better understanding of how to resolve conflicts and respond to the emotional needs of others. I highly recommend giving it a go!

Tara enabled me to see how I could build my own confidence up and the things I could change to make me a better partner.

I feel I have more choices than the two I initially though I had in regards to my relationship. I also found a way to move forward and know there is more than one answer!

Tara was able to provide us with some really usefully and tangible tools and info to work with.

The outcomes for us were that we were able to really highlight the things that are important to us and put into perspective the trivial things.

Tara was recommended to me and I wish I had of made the time to see her sooner.

I was frustrated and at a point where I did not know how to deal with what I was feeling and frustrated with myself when trying to communicate with my partner and not being able to improve things. Tara helped me identify areas that I was needing help in and gave me the tools to not only recognise when it was happening but also be able to work through it.

I would recommend Tara to all individuals and couples because she will help you be the best version of yourself and be a better partner

Tara has been a godsend!

I have been working with her for a little under six months, and her support and insight have helped me in my self development and healing. Her approach is evidence-based, compassionate, and adaptive to my shifting needs.

Through my work with her, I have gained knowledge and skills that have supported my self-awareness and integration. I am very satisfied with and grateful for her service, and would highly recommend her for anyone who wants support on their relational healing journey.

Tara has helped my husband and I develop more insights and strategies to relate to each other in a more positive, loving way. Our long term relationship has improved through practicing the skills and ways of speaking to one another.

On first meeting Tara, we felt welcomed and understood. Her flexible, empathetic, non-judgemental approach has made the repair of our relationship a positive and empowering experience. She provided so many resources to refer to, so the value of pairing with Tara for coaching remains long after the sessions ended.
