Personal Therapy with Tara Thomas

As a lifetime over-thinker and anxious little bunny, I’ve had my fair share of navigating the noise, chaos, and ethical dilemmas that come with being human. Surviving in a world like this requires compassionate space to unpack the big stuff—identity, relationships, climate anxiety, global upheaval, and the inner workings of your own brain. Add mental health challenges, a healthy dose of neurodiversity, or the weight of chronic illness and disability, and it’s no surprise if you’re feeling stuck, tangled, or just plain overwhelmed.

I love working with metaphor, and some of my favourite themes are ecology, permaculture, seasons, and gaming! I'm especially juiced at the moment by Gloomhaven, but happy to work within your favourite realms. Games I've mapped with clients before include Final Fantasy, Dungeons & Dragons, and The Elder Scrolls.

I fucking love working with reflective folk who are navigating the challenges that come with being deeply human.

What We’ll Do Together

Our work is about creating space to explore, make sense of your inner world, and build resourceful ways to move forward. Whether you’re questioning your choices, processing complex emotions, or stuck in loops of overthinking, I’m here to help.

Here’s what therapy with me looks like:

  • Listening, asking curious questions, and holding space for you to unpack what’s going on.
  • Being a sounding board for the complexities in your head and heart.
  • Helping you spot patterns that might be unhelpful or holding you back.
  • Offering strategies, tools, or ideas to navigate challenges in ways that work for your unique circumstances.
  • Validating your experience—because you’re not “crazy” for feeling what you feel.

Some Things We Might Explore

Life gets messy, and sometimes it’s hard to know where to start untangling it all. In our work together, we can delve into the complexities of relationships, identity, and the bigger questions that keep you up at night. Here’s a glimpse at some of the issues we might explore:

  • Did that just fucking happen? Sorting through the circumstances or events tied to behaviour, actions, or relationships.
  • Infidelity and attraction. Navigating the complex feelings of being the one who had an affair, processing betrayal, or figuring out what to do when you’re drawn to someone else.
  • Relationship crossroads. Deciding whether to stay or go and exploring the possibilities in either direction.
  • Opening relationships and polyamory. Deciding whether consensual non-monogamy is right for you, navigating the transition, and finding support when emotions arise and challenges surface.
  • Grief, breakups, and estrangements. Processing the heartbreak of losing relationships, whether through death, separation, or disconnection.
  • Living in rhythms and seasons. Finding flow in a world that demands constant productivity, and learning to honour the cycles of your energy and needs.
  • Chronic illness and identity. Especially with conditions like CFS/ME, we’ll explore how your health shapes your sense of self, relationships, and what "living well" means for you.
  • Is it capitalism, or is it me? Examining the pressure to always do, achieve, and succeed—and whether it’s even your burden to carry. Wrestling with questions like: Am I still valuable if I’m not earning money? Who am I without my job?
  • Compassion fatigue and climate anxiety. Finding ways to reset and rebuild when the world feels too heavy to hold.
  • Neurodivergence and relationships. Exploring how ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, or being an Aspie shapes your identity, interactions, and relational dynamics.
  • Adult friendships and support networks. Navigating the complex terrain of building meaningful connections, shifting reliance on yourself or others, and processing breakdowns in friendships or family relationships.

What Clients Say About Working with Me

I’ve been told that my approach is a mix of no bullshit honesty and deep compassion. I won’t tell you what to do, but I will help you see the patterns, the options, and the tools that make life feel more manageable.

KIND WORDS FROM CLIENTS

Working with Tara was an amazing experience. Her style of communication and no-nonsense approach to problem-solving really resonated with me.

During the sessions, I learnt a tremendous amount about myself, and how relationships actually work. The experience has helped me to develop a much better understanding of how to resolve conflicts and respond to the emotional needs of others. I highly recommend giving it a go!

Tara enabled me to see how I could build my own confidence up and the things I could change to make me a better partner.

I feel I have more choices than the two I initially though I had in regards to my relationship. I also found a way to move forward and know there is more than one answer!

Tara was able to provide us with some really usefully and tangible tools and info to work with.

The outcomes for us were that we were able to really highlight the things that are important to us and put into perspective the trivial things.

Tara was recommended to me and I wish I had of made the time to see her sooner.

I was frustrated and at a point where I did not know how to deal with what I was feeling and frustrated with myself when trying to communicate with my partner and not being able to improve things. Tara helped me identify areas that I was needing help in and gave me the tools to not only recognise when it was happening but also be able to work through it.

I would recommend Tara to all individuals and couples because she will help you be the best version of yourself and be a better partner

Tara has helped my husband and I develop more insights and strategies to relate to each other in a more positive, loving way. Our long term relationship has improved through practicing the skills and ways of speaking to one another.

On first meeting Tara, we felt welcomed and understood. Her flexible, empathetic, non-judgemental approach has made the repair of our relationship a positive and empowering experience. She provided so many resources to refer to, so the value of pairing with Tara for coaching remains long after the sessions ended.
