Q: WHAT DO RELATIONSHIP COACHES DO?

I take an experiential approach, incorporating embodiment practices alongside curious conversations to guide couples & individuals to discover their own unique dynamics. Q: HOW ARE RELATIONSHIP COACHES DIFFERENT TO RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLORS?

Relationship coaches and marriage counsellors share many of the same tools & techniques. The key difference is the training of each practitioner, the school of therapy that informs their approach, and the requirements of professional bodies for registration and supervision. In Australia, relationship coaches do not have a regulating body, nor requirements for registration or supervision. Marriage counsellors do have a regulating body, and membership requires registration and supervision but those things aren't necessary to practice. Having said that, my commitment to professionalism and high standards means that I continually participate in ongoing education, and seek out mentoring from relationship coaches, marriage counsellors, and other couples therapists in this space.

Q: DO RELATIONSHIP COACHES WORK?

This is a tricky question, and the answer is it depends. It depends on the relationship coach you choose and their experience & skill. It depends on what the issues are that you are looking to resolve. But more than anything, it depends how long you leave your challenges brewing, and how willing you are to engage with this work.

Q: HOW LONG IS A PROGRAM?

I only have one package that I offer, which is 3 months and includes 6 sessions plus online resources and email support. This package has a combination of both couple, and individual sessions. A typical program looks like this. There is plenty of flexibility in terms of time for delivery to account for the usual logistics challenges of life! There are a few reasons I do it this way; Working with clients in a session-to-session way creates loaded vibes. It reframes your experience as an expectation that a session will "fix something", and then if it doesn't, that "it didn't work". Working with relationship coaches is similar to working with a personal trainer; you learn technique, get feedback, and are guided during sessions, AND it is the consistent application of those techniques BETWEEN sessions that brings results. Three months requires you to frame your expectations that change takes time. It frees you from making relationship decisions day-to-day, and provides you with a framework to implement tools and calibrate the effect, with ongoing coaching & support. I don't vibe with sales fuckery. I choose to not implement tools like "the silver, gold, platinum package choice" or other manipulative sales techniques. Just one package, based on what I believe is the minimum block of time for you to begin to get traction.

Q: HOW MUCH IS A PROGRAM WITH A RELATIONSHIP COACH?

A 3 month program is $387 per month, for 3 months. So, $1161. You can pay that however your pay cycle rolls (weekly, fortnightly, monthly). That works out to be around one session per fortnight, but there is lots of flexibility to take that over a longer time to allow for the inevitabilities of life! Again, see above re: sales fuckery.

Q: DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

Absolutely. I am committed to accessibility for everyone who needs support in their relationship. Longer-term, shame-free, no extra cost payment plans are available, no questions asked. If $387 per month is beyond your budget, we'll work something out! Don't let money be the thing that holds you back.

Q: WHY DO YOU HATE SALES FUCKERY?

Because noone should ever be shamed, tricked, bullied, manipulated, or coerced into believing you need fixing, and that buying something will fix you. Because NO program will ever be the answer to you finding happiness, nor the answer to your yearning. Because I no longer want to contribute to the noise. Because I don't want to punish you for not having money. Because money should not be a barrier to accessing support for your relationship. Because Capitalism requires that some people hold wealth while others are oppressed, and that is not my jam. So: Fuck Capitalism, and Fuck Sales. I'm actively working to communicate in a way that strikes a balance between generosity in education, gentle reminders, and supportive enquiry. I'm actively working to rewrite all my shit and take out the push, the nudge, the sell. It's hard (because capitalism) and also because that balance is different for each of you. Q: DO YOU DO ONLINE CONSULTS, AND WORK WITH CLIENTS FROM INTERSTATE OR OVERSEAS?

Sure do! Online consults are a life-saver for couples & individual clients. No need to travel, find baby sitters, or juggle busy calendars. I use Zoom. It also means that we can work together regardless of your geographic location. For my interstate and overseas clients, please be sure to select the right timezone when you book your sessions!

Are there Reserved Carparks Near the Entrance?

I hold in-person client sessions at my place. You can park right out front, and I can save that spot for you if you let me know ahead of time.

Is There Wheelchair, Walker, or Scooter Accessibility to the Entrance, Client Room, and Common Areas?

The access to my house does NOT meet Australian Standards for wheelchair, walker, or scooter accessibility.

The door from the garage to the house, and the doors to the laundry and toilet are not wide enough for the required 850mm width.

I do offer online sessions which might be preferable for clients who are dependent on wheelchairs, scooters, or walkers.

Question 4

Is there Step-Free Access to the Entrance, Client Room, and Common Areas?

There is NOT step-free access.

The front path includes steep stairs without a handrail; however, it is possible to access the house internally through the garage by prior arrangement.
The garage to house access includes one step, and there is a small lip to access the laundry/toilet.
Additionally there are rugs on the floor in my client room which can be rolled away by prior arrangement.

Question 5

What Seats Will We Be Sitting In?

For my face-to-face client sessions I invite you to sit on a 3 seater lounge. It has been recently refurbished to have the webbing and cushions replaced.

The top of the seat cushions are x cm above the ground. It's possible to add another layer of seat cushions to increase the height.
The width of each cushion is x cm.
I have an alternative lounge that I can move into the space which is a little firmer and higher where required.
I recommend that for people who have difficulty standing from a lower chair that we decide on either additional cushions for height, or that you request the alternative lounge so I can make sure you're comfortable.
I also have a number of supportive cushions, bolsters, and backrests to accommodate different seating needs.
Please feel free to bring any supports that might make you more comfortable during our session.

Moving, Stretching, Standing

I encourage you to take care of your body. That might mean letting me know you'd like to stand, stretch, or move for a minute.

There is always capacity for us to do that within sessions.

Question 7

Allergies and Sensitivities

I try to provide a space that is welcoming & comfortable for all the people who would like to work with me.

However, I do have two dogs who share my home. They are not allowed on the furniture, but do spend some time in the room where I see clients. The floors are bamboo and will be vacuumed and mopped on the day of your session, and the rugs will be vacuumed. If you have allergies to dogs that might not be enough.
I also live adjacent to bushland, and am an enthusiastic gardener- do let me know if pollen is an issue and I'll not bring flowers into the house for your session.
Additionally, I like to burn incense and diffuse oils, if you have any sensitivities please let me know and I won't do that on the day of your session.

Is the Toilet Accessible with Grab Bars & Room for Mobility Aids?

There are no grab bars in the toilet.

The toilet door opens into the laundry, which can be locked from the inside and used as an additional space for a mobility aid (leaving the toilet door open). However, this may still not be close enough to the toilet depending on your needs.

IBS, Overactive Bladder, Neurogenic Bladder, Incontinence, Menorrhagia and Other Bathroom Needs

It's really important to me that we can prioritise your body while still doing meaningful work. For some people, a 90 minute appointment like this can be anxiety inducing as you require access to a toilet more frequently or unpredictably.

If you are comfortable letting me know about your specific needs (timing, products) I will make sure our sessions support that with breaks. Alternatively, you can just let me know during a session at any time.

The toilet in my home is freely accessible for you during our sessions and is equipped with;

toilet paper
spare toilet paper
air freshener
a toilet brush & toilet cleaning gel
has an immediately adjacent sink with hand-wash, sanitiser, and a hand towel
a small bin with disposable bags.

Are You Auslan Proficient, or Do You Provide Interpreters?

I don't use Auslan, and I don't provide interpreters. If you would like, I am happy to work with an interpreter that you provide.

Question 11

Do You Support Service Animals?

At this time it isn't possible to bring service animals into my home. I have two dogs, and it is their home too. In order to facilitate quiet sessions, I move my dogs into different areas depending on the weather! The comfort of a service animal would require them accessing areas that belong to my dogs, which isn't possible for me to arrange.

In this circumstance I recommend online sessions.

Are Your Resources Accessible for Colour Blindness?

I have created lots of resources over my years in this work, and over time have become more consistent about ensuring they are optimally accessible for various different eyes & brains!

My most recent online and printed resources have high colour contrast and avoid using colour for meaning. I usually offer black & white versions too, both for accessibility as well as environmental reasons. I apply the same approach to my website.

Additionally, you can use the accessibility plugin on my website (in the top left corner) to choose options that make browsing better for you.

Are Your Resources Accessible for People with Low Vision or Blindness?

A lot of my client work is done with the aid of a whiteboard. I like to use it to help us all remember the threads of our conversations, to take notes, and so that you can take a photo each session to remember our work.

Depending on your level of vision, I can adapt this board (colour, size and type of writing) to make it clearer for you. This would require a conversation in advance so I can prepare the right materials and make some notes for myself to optimise our time in session.

I don't currently have a process for printing to braille, but have this on my radar for future development.

Can You Provide Adjustable Lighting?

As someone with sensory processing sensitivity, my office and client spaces MUST have low & adjustable lighting! Depending on the time of day and the season, we use a combination of natural light and lamps. The lamplight is soft.

There is a dimmable light in the ceiling that I can turn up or down.

Question 15

What is the Sound Like in the Room?

As someone with sensory processing sensitivity, my office and client spaces have been designed to protect from sound (my hearing is my least tolerant sense!)

Having said that, I live in suburbia so there is the occasional barking dog in the neighborhood, my dogs may bark audibly (from a distance) when you arrive, and sometimes there are noises outside like birds or neighbors Doing Things.

If you're super sensitive to sound you're welcome to wear something like loops, or to let me know so I can support you better.

What Does it Smell Like in the Room?

The space I use for client sessions is my favourite room in the house, and is adjacent to my office. I have a hippy soul and like to use a diffuser with essential oils and burn incense in that space. My intake form specifically asks about this, and I am very happy not to do those things on a day that you attend.

I also have two dogs who spend a bunch of time inside. They are not allowed on the furniture in that room, but there might sometimes be a slight dog smell.

AND if it is triggering for you or you have allergies or other scent sensitivities, it might be better to book an online session.

Can I Fidget, Stim, and Wriggle?

Sure can!

I work with (mostly) neurospicy folks and am totally cool with all those things. I have a little bag of fidgets and things to hold, but feel free to bring your own. The only thing I request is that you don't use shit that makes clicky sounds (like a pen or a fidget) because it drives me bananas.

Stimming, touching things, moving, fidgeting and wiggling is all a-okay.

Is There a Quiet Place to Go?

I don't have a sensory free space, but you do have access to my kitchen/dining area if you want a break from the room or the work we're doing.
